  • Rules for Playing Carcassonne and Carcassonne Expansion Packs

    By Lisa - Homeschooling Mom

Carcassonne is a very popular ” German” style board game.
I haven’t played Carcassonne in a while which is a shame- it is one of my favourites. With the cooler weather lout come the board games. I instigated a board Game night at my house last night with family and friends and pulled this one out. It was fun to see new people embrace this one.

I was shocked at how rust I was at some of the rules and game play. Today i revisited site where you can plat Carcassonne online (as well as other like Settlers of Catan) and the preferred way to play is using the Trader and Builder expansion pack. I totally forgot how to play! Thank goodness I was only playing bots as i was embarrassingly bad- d and doing odd things like laying down a Meeple on a road and missing so it became a farmer.
( Note: My girl friend declared me geek-iest woman alive when I told her the wooden play piece are called meeples. She did not believe that this s is a WELL known fact and she should be embarrassed for NOT knowing!)

At any rate- I went to play Carcassonne online and was stumped by rules for Builders and Traders and had to search a while.
In my search I found a site that list rules and game play for most German style board games and their expansions as well as some others. ( surprisingly no rules for Settlers of Catan) but they did have GO and about 350 other games.
The site also lets you play online on their server here
    The site is: http://www.brettspielwelt.info/rules/
I have tried to play Carcassonne online with their gaming portal but admit it is not that straightforward.
Lot of java windows opening. stuff crashing and huge resource drain on my PC.

My family and I also enjoy a lot of board games. We play year-round, but during the summer we enjoy more of the yard games, and come winter, we gather around the kitchen table to play board games. Our favorites are Hero Scape, Balderdash, Mad Gab and Clue. If you’ve never played these, you should check those out as well.

Board games are great for family fun!

I myself prefer the good old boardgames to the “high-tech” ones that seems to dominate the market now. Games like monopoly and scrabble are sure winners when my family gathers to play some games.
But it is ofcourse always exciting to try new games. This one i have never heard of, but it seems like good fun.

I myself love playing board games, when it comes to spending some quality time with my family. Same here, never tried playing Carcassonne, but seems like its worth a shot!

Seems like a fun game but a bit hard to get into. I prefer easy games that doesn’t have too many rules to learn. Like backgammon or monopoly. :)

Backgammon and monopoly sounds better to me too. I can’t stand the games that requires a whole book for explaining the rules. It seems like most of the point disappears when it gets too serious. The very definition of a game is that it is supposed to be an easy pass of time..
