New Expansion for Carcassonne: The Catapult, Is this Necessary?
By Lisa - Homeschooling Mom
We have been hauling out the board games last couple of weeks- here kids are playing Settlers by I still prefer Carcassonne . I find it easier to get a game going, introduce to new people and you can actually chat while you play and not worry about cards , etc . IN a nutshell you don’t have to focus as much and I like that.
I am a bit of a purist and just like to play regular game with Builder and Traders expansion pack. I think this is about all you need , despite Rio Grande’s insistence on cashing in and offering more and more expansions. The latest is Carcassonne: The Catapult. Comes with more tiles and a “catapult” that literally flings these tokes. depending on what happens you can remove meeples, etc.
I am not sure about this. First of all- the fling bothers me- I hate meeples being touched and moved around and I don’t like the board tiles being shifted and the thought of people and kids with a catapult near my meeples give me chills.
We will be passing on this one.
Honestly This is such a great game- the only expansions you need to bother with are Carcassonne: Traders and Builders Game Expansion and maybe Inns and Cathedrals.

I’ve played the original and I have also played the river expansion. The river expansion is not too much of a departure from the original game and it adds a new layer of complexity if you enjoy placing a lot of farmers because the river sets some boundaries for farms.
